North Atlanta High School, senior

Brett Dutro, 18, son of Richard and Lauren Dutro, has earned the honor of being a National Merit Scholar as a senior at North Atlanta High School in Buckhead. Scoring a 2,330 out of a possible 2,400 on his SATs, Dutro received recognition from the Atlanta Public School (APS) district and the Atlanta Kiwanis Club as the APS STAR student for NAHS for receiving the highest SAT score within the school.

“It’s a nice honor,” he said.

In addition to Dutro’s academic success, he also excels as a double bass musician in the APS Youth Orchestra and as a member of the Georgia Robotics Alliance on a robotics team. When Dutro finds spare time, he dedicates his energy to playing recreation league basketball with his friends at Peachtree Presbyterian Church.

What’s Next:

Dutro has been accepted to and plans to attend Georgia Tech in Atlanta this fall. His $2,500 National Merit Scholarship will be applied at GT where he has chosen to study computer engineering. Dutro said he hopes to pursue a career doing research and development with the hopes of “making the next great thing,” whatever that may be.
