For the hundreds of motorists who were tied up on I-285 westbound on the north Perimeter between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Sept. 15, this is what kept you from getting home or to work. It was an accident involving a car and a motorcycle. .
Sandy Springs Police investigated a traffic accident that occurred just after 8 p.m. on I-285 west between Lake Forrest and Riverside Drive. The preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle struck a motorcycle, pinning the bike under the car.
According to police, the car continued on in excess of 100 yards with the bike pinned.
“It appears the driver of the car attempted to leave the scene after striking the motorcycle” according to Steve Rose, public information officer for the Sandy Springs Police Department. “The driver of the car became combative with police and witnesses until being tased by officers. The driver was then taken into custody,” Rose reported.
Rose said the driver of the motorcycle was taken to Grady Hospital “with what appeared to be significant injuries. Identities of both men are being withheld at this time,” he added.
The traffic on I-285 westbound was completely blocked until 10 p.m., according to Rose, when three lanes were open to traffic.
