APS keeps outgoing North Atlanta High School principal as interim

Outgoing North Atlanta High principal Mark MyGrant will remain as NAHS interim principal until APS officials name a permanent replacement.

Atlanta Public Schools announced today that Mark MyGrant, the retiring North Atlanta High Principal, will remain as interim principal until APS can find a permanent replacement.

MyGrant, who was set to formally retire this month, will remain as interim through the beginning of the school year on Aug. 6 and will continue to lead plans to relocate the school to its new campus on Northside Parkway beginning at the start of the 2013 school year. School officials expect to name a permanent replacement by the end of this summer.

“Tentative plans are for MyGrant to return as principal for three months, after which a new principal is expected to be hired,” APS said in its Talk Up APS blog. “The search for a new leader for North Atlanta High School will continue to include participation by parents and members of the local community.”

MyGrant planned to go into the real estate business with District 4 School Board Member Nancy Meister, but the tumultuous process to fill the vacancy dragged out longer than APS officials had hoped.

School officials on June 4 offered the job Reginald Richardson, who turned down the job after he received a better offer from his current employer in Brooklyn, N.Y. Parents were also concerned that the board considered hiring former Riverwood International Charter School principal Eddie Echols, who resigned from the school last fall and is now charged with stealing nearly $25,000 in school funds.
