Fulton County Sheriff Ted Jackson appeared to win a tough primary fight against opponent Richard Lankford on July 31, but he may face Lankford in an Aug. 21 runoff.
The Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections on Feb. 3 said votes will not be officially certified until Saturday, Aug. 4. On July 31, Jackson’s vote total hovered just below 50 percent. According to the most recent totals on the Department of Registration and Elections website, he has 50.9 percent of the vote. He needs more than half the total vote to avoid a runoff election.
Attempts Saturday to reach the Department of Registration and Elections were unsuccessful. The final results may not be known until Monday.
Richard Lankford’s website says the candidate will face Jackson in a runoff on Aug. 21, but a person with the campaign who declined to give his name said elections officials are still tallying the votes. Neither campaign returned a reporter’s phone call seeking a comment.
