J. Max Davis, the leader of the pro-city advocacy group Brookhaven YES, has announced he will run for mayor of the new city of Brookhaven.
On July 31, voters approved a referendum to create a city of Brookhaven by a margin of 55-45 percent. The new city will begin operations Dec. 17 in the area of unincorporated DeKalb County roughly between Dunwoody, Chamblee, I-85 and the Fulton County line.
Davis said he wants to run in hopes of following through with the promises of better representation, lower taxes and greater accountability that he campaigned for with Brookhaven YES.
“I really believe in the charter and the model the city is based upon,” Davis said. “I want to make sure that vision gets implemented. That’s the main reason I’m running for mayor.”
Qualifying for Brookhaven mayor and city council will be Aug. 13 -16. The city’s first election will be held Nov. 6.
