The recount, conducted Wednesday, Aug. 8, shows the incumbent sheriff received 50.05 percent of the vote, just enough to prevent a runoff. Lankford received 32.46 percent of the vote. By law, a candidate needs to win more than 50 percent of the vote to win an election outright.
Fulton County spokeswoman Spokeswoman Jessica Corbitt-Dominguez said the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections must meet to formally certify the vote.
