The Sandy Springs Police Department is now accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, becoming one of the few agencies around the country to receive this distinction.
According to the police department, of the 18,000 law enforcement agencies in the country less than 1,000 are accredited.
Receiving this distinction required an extensive review process, and often police officers did not realize they were being reviewed by CALEA officials. Police Chief Terry Sult commended the police department staff for their hard work.
“Without them – the quality of their efforts every single day – this would not have occurred at all,” Sult said in a press release.
