Buckhead: Attorney for former North Atlanta principal demands hearing

Mark MyGrant

The attorney for former North Atlanta High principal Mark MyGrant is asking the Atlanta Board of Education to hold a public hearing regarding allegations of racism at the school, according to documents obtained by the Buckhead Reporter.

On Oct. 31 attorney Glenn Delk sent the letter to Chairman Reuben McDaniel and other school board members asking for the board’s Ethics Commission to schedule a public hearing to hear evidence about the charges. Delk said if the board wishes to avoid a hearing, MyGrant will accept a written retraction and an apology from board members and Superintendent Erroll Davis.

“Mr. Davis and [Atlanta Public Schools] should be required to produce any and all evidence to support these anonymous allegations,” Delk’s letter says. “Mr. MyGrant’s accusers should be publically identified and subpoenaed to testify.”

Emails attached to the letter show MyGrant was informed of allegations that a teacher he planned to hire was racist. MyGrant’s attempts to get more information were unsuccessful, the documents show.

The letter also includes an analysis by a forensic accountant refuting claims made by Davis about the school’s academic performance.

The Buckhead Reporter has placed a call to Atlanta Public Schools for comment. Keep checking ReporterNewspapers.net for more updates as they become available.
