State Rep. Michael “Mike” Jacobs of Brookhaven has been appointed to a state court judgeship for DeKalb County.

Jacob’s appointment by Gov. Nathan Deal will create a vacancy in District 80 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives, which covers Brookhaven and part of Sandy Springs. A date for an election to choose Jacob’s successor hasn’t been determined, said Ashley Baratta with the governor’s office.

Jacobs moves into the $161,067-a-year position after the appointment of Eleanor L. Ross as federal judge for the Northern District of Georgia.

Jacobs, a Republican, operates a law practice in Sandy Springs and received his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law.

Deal also announced the appointment of the Honorable Jean-Paul “JP” Boulee as Superior Court judge of the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit. Boulee fills the vacancy created by the resignation of the Honorable Cynthia J. Becker

Boulee is a partner with Jones Day in Atlanta. He previously served as a captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Boulee earned a bachelor’s degree in Politics from Washington & Lee University and a law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. He and his wife, Julianne, live in Decatur and have two children.

The appointments will take effect upon swearing in.
