Four candidates have qualified to run in the July 14 special election for the District 80 seat in the state House of Representatives, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s website.

The website listed Republicans Catherine Bernard, Loren Collins and J. Max Davis and Democrat Taylor J. Bennett as candidates in the race to succeed former Rep. Mike Jacobs (R-Brokhaven), who resigned after he was appointed to a judgeship. Qualifying for the seat closed June 3.
House District 80 includes Brookhaven and a portion of Sandy Springs.
All four candidates say they live in Brookhaven.
Davis served as Brookhaven’s first mayor. He recently announced he would resign that post to run for the House. In 2014, Bernand ran against Jacobs in the 2014 Republican Primary. Collins describes himself as a “Bull Moose Republican.”
