Selig adds retail on Peachtree Rd.

Selig Enterprises Inc. is planning to build a 44,802-square-foot, two-level retail and studio center called Buckhead Square II on Peachtree Road in Buckhead, just north of the Caribou Coffee shop and across the street from the Hyatt hotel.

Atlanta-based Selig plans to raze the former one-story retail center on the site to make way for the $5.3 million project, (architect’s rendering at right) scheduled to be completed in February. The ground floor of the project will have 23,005 square feet of retail space and the upper level will have 21, 797 square feet of studio space.

The project is adjacent to Selig’s Buckhead Square at the corner of Peachtree and Piedmont Roads, which is anchored by The Container Store and contains the Caribou Coffee store.

Belk plans high-end store at Phipps

Belk Inc. is in the process of upgrading its Phipps Plaza store into a flagship high-end retail location to compete on a more even level with its Buckhead rivals—Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom in the same mall.

Belk, which is one of the nation’s largest privately held department store companies, bought out Parisian in August 2006 and completed the rebranding of its metro Atlanta stores with the Belk name this fall.

But changing the name was not enough for the store at Phipps. Belk is stocking the store with higher-end merchandise and focusing more on customer service. Reports are that Belk spent more dollars in six months on the Phipps store than Parisian did in the past five years.

Traditionally, Belk stores are found in suburban strip shopping centers in the Atlanta market. However, at the upper-class SouthPark mall in Charlotte, NC, Belk’s hometown flagship store has higher-end merchandise.

At Phipps, Belk is adding LaCoste men’s apparel and women’s footwear, Joe’s Jeans, Eileen Fisher, Kenneth Cole handbags, 7 for All Mankind, Joseph Abboud men’s collection, etc.

Van Cleef & Arpels Buckhead bound?

Luxury jewelry retailer Van Cleef & Arpels may be looking for a place to open a store in Buckhead—perhaps in The Streets of Buckhead development.

Van Cleef & Arpels, which has its U.S. operations in New York, has not confirmed an exact location for a store in Atlanta, but did indicate a real interest in having a store here.

Van Cleef & Arpels is a sister company to luxury retailer Cartier, which has a store at Lenox Square, and both are owned by Compagnie Financiere Richemont SA of Geneva, Switzerland.

Van Cleef & Arpels, which was founded in Paris in 1906, opened the first of its 10 U.S. stores in 1939 in New York City. The nearest stores to Atlanta are in Palm Beach and Boca Raton, FL.

Pill Hill gets new healthcare office tenants

The Perimeter area just south of I-285, affectionately known as Pill Hill and one of metro Atlanta’s centers of healthcare services, has land three new office tenants.

Reproductive Biology Associates, Georgia Cancer Specialists and Obstetrics & Gynecology of Atlanta PC will occupy nearly 68,000 square feet of space in Center Pointe, a 355,000-square-foot Class A office complex at 1100 Johnson Ferry Road in Sandy Springs.

Center Pointe is the first acquisition in the metro Atlanta market for BremnerDuke Healthcare Real Estate, Duke Realty Corp.’s new healthcare division. Earlier this year, the firm purchased the Center Pointe I and II office building, and four surrounding acres for nearly $45 million. The area is home to Northside Hospital, Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and other medical services providers.

The buildings previously have housed software, technology and other general office tenants.
