Leadership Sandy Springs (LSS) recently graduated the 2008 class—its 21st —which was made up of 29 members from the corporate world, local government, non-profit organizations and community residents.

The nine-month program presents information on all aspects of the Sandy Springs community from local and state government to education to civic and cultural issues.

LSS alumni have been tapped to serve on many city of Sandy Springs and Fulton County task forces, advisory committees and policy making boards.

Each year the class completes service projects to benefit Sandy Springs. The LSS Class of 2008 projects include teaming up with the city of Sandy Springs to educate residents, schools and businesses in the city about the impact of storm water on the environment and engaging volunteers to place markers on the storm sewers in Sandy Springs neighborhoods.

Another project team is organizing a “shoebox” drive to collect toiletries to donate to local non-profits serving Sandy Springs including the Community Action Center and the Mary Hall Freedom House. The third project team will work with the Sandy Springs Fire Department to obtain CERT (Community Emergency Response Team Training) and help recruit other civilians to become trained, serving as neighborhood early responders in case of an emergency.
