The Sandy Springs/Perimeter Chamber of Commerce honored four businesses with its inaugural Small Business Council Awards during the monthly Bagels & Business Breakfast on April 20 at the Westin Atlanta Perimeter North hotel.
Fido Fido Dog Daycare was the winner of the B2B CFO Small Business of the Year Award. The Runner-up Small Business of the Year Award was presented to Bean Head Toys.
The five finalists for Small Business of the Year, which also included Flavor Cafe & Bakery, Lefco Renovations and Nancy G’s Cafe & Bistro, were judged not only on the merits of growth in revenue, number of customers, and quality of service or product, but also on success within the marketplace and the role the business plays in the community.
Chamber board member Ron Comacho, who serves on the Small Business Council, said in presenting the awards: “This category required that the judges dig deep to once again view success within the Sandy Springs marketplace and look at the quality of service and/or product vs. competitors. For dog owners in the crowd familiar with Fido Fido, it is common knowledge that they stand above much of the local competition.”
In announcing Bean Head Toys as the runner-up, Comacho said: “Toy recalls and federal compliance issues were major hurdles that Bean Head Toys rose above to grow impressively and provide a quality of service that goes well beyond play, to helping children to learn.”
The winner of the Keller Williams Community Service Award was SR Walker Designs. The three nominees, which also included Kai Med Spa and the Sandy Springs Reporter, were judged on the scope of service to the community, the meaningfulness of that service, and the nature of organizations and individuals helped through pro bono service.
“The sheer scope of organizations that Steven Walker has worked unselfishly to support over the last several years was a significant factor,” Comacho said of the owner of SR Walker Designs. “He has given hundreds of hours of personal time that would translate into thousands of billable hours and has done this with a certain grace.”
Trio Media Group won the Comcast Fast Business Award for the use of technology. The two nominees, which also included Firefly Creative, were judged on the basis of how technology supported the growth of the company, as well as how technology was used to support the success of customers and foster customer satisfaction.
“The range of new technologies that Trio leverages to support the success of clients is a significant factor in why Trio was selected,” Comacho said.
