Sandy Springs City Council is considering redrafting the city laws governing massage parlors. City Attorney Wendell Willard told council members the current city ordinance, copied from the Fulton County law when Sandy Springs became a city, is outdated and confusing.

The proposed new ordinance would require any massage therapists not licensed by the state to get a license from the city.

Mayor Eva Galambos questioned whether the new ordinance should allow spas and massage parlors to be open from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m., as shown in the proposed legislation. The current rules say they must close at 9 p.m, she said.

“The earlier you close, the less chance of hanky panky, it seems to me,” she said. “I’m always very pleased when I drive by at 9 o’clock and the lights are out.”
