The City of Sandy Springs on Aug. 25 named its new communications director. Sharon Kraun will be the new spokeswoman for the city, officially the city’s director of communications. She will assume her new duties on Aug. 30, according to a city press release.

Kraun has more than 25 years of experience in communications. She spent 10 years as marketing and promotions director for Eason Publications, publisher of Creative Loafing newspapers, according to a city press release. She also has worked for WGST Radio, WXIA TV and WSB TV.

Kraun also served as the spokeswoman for Starbucks, Macy’s, Radiant Systems, and Jekyll Island, according to the city. Kraun is a graduate of the University of Alabama’s journalism school.

In the press release, city officials praised Kraun as an outstanding hire.

“Sharon Kraun’s combination of experience in marketing, strategic communications, and journalism makes her superbly positioned to lead the City’s communications activities,” said Ed Shoucair,  executive vice president of the collaborative and partner-in-charge of the firm’s Sandy Springs Communications contract.

“We are very pleased to have her aboard.”  City Manager John McDonough said.  “We are delighted to welcome Ms. Kraun to the Sandy Springs team.  Her focus on creative partnerships will serve the city and our residents well.”
