Fulton County Schools on Sept. 23 released its copy of a report detailing an investigation into the use of a credit card by Eddie Echols, former principal of Riverwood International Charter School.
The school confirmed on Sept. 20 that Echols had resigned.
On or around Sept. 13, Eddie Echols told new Fulton County Schools Superintendent Robert Avossa that he used an American Express credit card account he opened for school purchases to pay for a rehearsal dinner and payment for his wife’s tickets to a conference.
The report also reveals that the school’s auditor, Angela Huston, advised him not to make personal purchases on the card, which Echols applied for at a Costco, and advised him to close the credit card account in March 2010.
But Echols continued to use the card until the beginning of 2011, the investigation found.
The investigation determined that Echols violated the school systems’ code of ethics, which forbids co-mingling of public or school-related funds with personal funds or checking accounts.
