Transportation officials again are warning drivers to avoid I-285 this weekend as road repairs are expected to create delays.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews and contractors are scheduled to work on three side of the city along I-285 this weekend as well as on I-20 just outside the east side perimeter, weather permitting, the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts said in a press release on Feb. 8.

Up to three lanes will be closed in both directions all weekend between Ashford Dunwoody Road and I-75 for concrete slab and bridge joint replacements in several locations, the PCIDs said.

On I-285 southbound on the west side, crews will close two right lanes near Lankford Parkway Saturday for concrete slab replacements.  And, on I-285 on the east side, two left lanes in both directions will be closed near Flat Shoals Parkway as crews perform sign structure work all weekend. Two lanes of I-20 eastbound, just outside the Perimeter in DeKalb County and between Columbia Drive and Wesley Chapel Road,  will be closed for pavement work.

Additionally, contractors will continue the construction of the bridges in the Ga. 400/I-85 interchange.

“If you can avoid I-285 and I-20 east this weekend, I would do it,” said GDOT District Construction Engineer Lee Upkins. “Long delays are expected and planning ahead will be the key to avoiding heavy traffic.”
