Brookhaven’s Planning Commission voted to recommend rezoning Century Center as part of the office complex’s annexation application.

About 50 people attended the Planning Commission’s July 18 meeting and shared their opposition to the rezoning. Many complained that the process has been rushed. The owners of Century Center applied for annexation July 1. City Council will vote on whether to annex the approximately 100 acre commercial center July 23.

According to state law, a property must be rezoned as part of an annexation application.

Commission member Jack Honderd made the motion to recommend approval of the Pedestrian Community District zoning designation, with the condition that any substantial changes to the property must come back to the Planning Commission and City Council for approval.

The planning commission voted 4-2 to approve the motion.  John Hess and Rob Francour voted against the motion. Chairman Stan Segal was absent.
