The city is launching a photography contest ahead of its annual Sparkle Sandy Springs, the city’s holiday decorating contest. Here is the full press release from the City of Sandy Springs:

City of Sandy Springs launches photo contest as it opens its annual Sparkle Sandy Springs décor competition.
SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (Oct. 23, 2013)—The city of Sandy Springs is preparing for the holidays, and is asking for photo submissions for this year’s holiday card. Anyone with photos of city events, historic locations, nature landmarks or its people is invited to submit images for consideration.
“We’re excited to begin a new tradition involving the community with the City’s holiday card. With cell phones now producing wonderful photos, residents of all ages can snap a shot and enter,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos.
Digital photos must be taken within the city of Sandy Springs and should be at least three (3) mega pixels or digitally scanned as either a JPG or PNG digital images at a file size between three (3) megabytes and nine (9) megabytes at 300 DPI. The photo name should include the first and last name of the contestant and a short title of the photo without using capital letters, spaces, underlines or dashes. Submissions should be emailed to: communications@sandyspringsga.
A panel of judges will choose the top three photos they feel best depict Sandy Springs. Entries will be judged on subject matter, composition, clarity, lighting, depth of field, artistry/drama, degree of difficulty, technical excellence, and overall impact. The public is invited to vote online via the City’s Facebook page (facebook.com/sandyspringsga) from Nov. 13, 2013 to close of business Nov. 15, with the top vote recipient named the winner of the contest.
The photography contest kicks off the City’s Sparkle Sandy Springs season, including the City’s Sparkle Sandy Springs holiday décor contest. The competition is open to all businesses within city limits of Sandy Springs. Businesses must submit a registration form to enter the competition. Participating businesses will be judged on the decorated storefronts, which are visible from the street, with décor representing the holiday spirit expressed in an inviting and festive way. Judging for Sparkle Sandy Springs will take place over a two-day period: Dec. 10-11, 2013. Participating businesses are requested to turn on their lights at 5:30 p.m. on those days and keep them on until midnight. Judging criteria for Sparkle Sandy Springs includes Creativity and Originality, Best Expression of Theme, Best Use of Lighting, Best Use of Available Space and overall Design Quality and Presentation. The winning storefront will be announced during the Dec. 17, 2013 Sandy Springs City Council meeting.
