Sandy Springs City Council on April 1 approved a mutual aid agreement with Atlanta for supplemental fire and protection services.

An “automatic” aid agreement already exists. In 2007 when the Sandy Springs Fire Department began operating, an agreement was reached between Sandy Springs Fire Station 4 on Wiecua Road and Atlanta Fire Station 27 on Northside Drive to have the closest station respond in each other’s jurisdiction. Automatic aid happens when units are initially dispatched.

Mutual aid occurs when first responders determine they need more equipment or personnel.
