The House DeKalb County Cityhood Subcommittee will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 3, to begin hammering out new boundary lines for the proposed cities of LaVista Hills and Tucker. The meeting will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Room 506 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building, 18 Capitol Square.

At this meeting the committee will hear testimony from representatives from the Tucker and LaVista Hills cityhood organizations. Following the testimony, the committee will take public comment.

The panel was created after LaVista Hills and Tucker were unable to come up with boundary lines by a Nov. 15 deadline.

“I look forward to hearing from the proponents of the LaVista Hills and Tucker cities, as well as from members of the community who want their voice heard on this subject,” said Rep. Buzz Brockway, Chair of the DeKalb Cityhood Subcommittee. “The members of this subcommittee take this process very seriously, and I feel confident that we will find a solution that will allow these two cityhood proposals to move forward during the next legislative session.”

House Governmental Affairs Committee Chairwoman Amy Carter (R-Valdosta) recently announced the appointees to the DeKalb County Cityhood Subcommittee of the House Governmental Affairs Committee. The following House members were appointed to serve on this subcommittee: Rep. Buzz Brockway (R-Lawrenceville), Chair Rep. Barry Fleming (R-Harlem), Rep. Mark Hamilton (R-Cumming), Rep. Howard Mosby (D-Atlanta), and Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur).

The panel’s sole charge will be to produce a boundary map no later than Dec. 31 by majority vote of the panel.
