A Brookhaven police officer is credited with saving a life by using his city-issued Evzio naloxone auto-injector from kaléo, police say. The rescue occurred while the officer was working an off-duty, extra job on March 15 at approximately 2:45 a.m.
Police say the patient ingested a drug cocktail before becoming unresponsive. Officer Qui Q. Vu detected a weak pulse and applied on the patient’s right thigh a single dose of naloxone with the auto-injector. Approximately ten minutes later, the patient developed a stronger pulse, before paramedics responded to the scene.
The Brookhaven Police Department received at donation of 100 cartons of the naloxone auto-injectors in January and all personnel attended training on how to properly administer it.
