Construction to improve Morgan Falls Road and add sidewalk along the roadway gets underway this week, Sharon Kraun, a spokesperson for Sandy Springs, said.

The $1.75 million, seven-month project will install a new sidewalk system on Morgan Falls Road from the existing sidewalk near the Laurels at Overlook Park Apartments, down to Morgan Falls Overlook Park, which is a distance of just more than half a mile.

The project begins with the installation of protective erosion control measures and adding a storm drainage system. Retaining wall construction, associated retaining walls and road curbing and driveway also begin in mid-September.

“This work will involve significant lane closures throughout the project life cycle, with the bulk of work planned to take place during the business week,” Kraun said in an emailed press release. “Motorists are asked to exercise extreme caution when headed to and from the park.”

With the completion of this phase of the project, paving is planned for Morgan Falls Road in the spring 2016. Landscaping, informational signage and supplemental stormwater quality features are also planned activities for 2016.

Updates on the project can be found on the city’s website, and the city will also post updates on its Facebook page.
