Brookhaven City Council awarded a $763,320 contract at its June 21 meeting to the firm AECOM to complete a design pedestrian and streetscape improvements on Peachtree Road.
The city received grant money from the Atlanta Regional Commission and MARTA for the project that entails designing the improvements along approximately 1.38 miles between North Druid Hills Road and Ashford-Dunwoody Road.
The design must be consistent with he Brookhaven Peachtree LCI Overlay District, such as including a 10-foot wide sidewalk. Additional improvements include landscaping, benches, trash cans, bus shelters and pedestrian/street lighting.
The project will also include a traffic study of the corridor, including analysis of more than 20 intersections along this route. The intersections are:
The traffic analysis will focus on the morning and evening peak hours for 23 intersections:

Public Works Director Richard Meehan said this project’s traffic study will complement the current traffic study MARTA is conducting as part of its planned development on Peachtree Road as well as city traffic studies along the corridor.
Funding for this design will come from:
• Atlanta Regional Commission LCI Grant, $373,481.41
• MARTA Sidewalk Offset Fund Grant, $131,844.00
• Public Works HOST Funds, $257,995.00
The city must match the ARC funding with $93,370.35 of its own money.
Public involvement in the project is also required.
