The Fulton Board of Education plans to raise taxes for the school system by 7.44 percent, according to a July 10 press release.

The school district has set public hearings at the North Learning Center, 450 Northridge Parkway, in Sandy Springs on July 17 at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Another will be held July 31 at Asa G. Hilliard Elementary School, 3353 Mount Olive Road, in Atlanta at 11 a.m.

Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase.

The $1.7 billion budget tentatively adopted by the Fulton County Board of Education requires a millage rate higher than the rollback millage rate, or the millage rate that would produce the same revenue as last year, the release said.
