With local schools on spring break April 6 through April 10, districts and the community alike are providing meals to students in need during the week.
Atlanta Public Schools
Atlanta Public Schools offered grocery pickup on April 4 in preparation for spring break.
Beginning April 13, food distribution will be once a week on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon by drive-thru or walk-up.

The city’s Centers of Hope Afterschool Meal Program, which provides dinner and a snack to APS students at various recreation centers, is operating on a modified schedule, running Mondays through Fridays, 4-6 p.m. The locations include Buckhead’s Peachtree Hills Recreation Center, 308 Peachtree Hills Ave. For a full list and more information about the program, see the website here.
DeKalb County Schools
The DeKalb County School District handed out five days of meals to students on April 3 in preparation for spring break.
“This will ensure that our students have food during the week of April 6-10, 2020,” a statement from the district said.
On April 13, the district will return to its meal service plan, which has been modified since it began on March 16. Under the current plan, students will receive a two-day meal package on each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, instead of daily.
Locally, students can pick up meals at Cross Keys High School at 1626 North Druid Hills Road in Brookhaven; Sequoyah Middle School at 3456 Aztec Road in Doraville; and John Robert Lewis Elementary School at 2630 Skyland Drive in Brookhaven.
Fulton County Schools
The Fulton County School System has halted its meal program but will continue its partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank to provide groceries during the week of spring break.
According to the district, families can pick up food items through the Atlanta Community Food Bank on April 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at:
- Alpharetta First Baptist Church at 44 Academy Street in Alpharetta
- North Point Community Church at 4350 North Point Parkway in Alpharetta
- Chapel Hill Church Atlanta at 4330 Washington Road in Atlanta
- Peachtree Presbyterian Church at 3434 Roswell Road in Buckhead
- East Point First Mallalieu UMC at 2651 N. Church Street in East Point
- Prince Hall Grand Lodge at 7340 Old National Highway in South Fulton
- Elizabeth Baptist Church at 4245 Cascade Road in Atlanta
- Roswell Presbyterian Church at 755 Mimosa Boulevard in Roswell
- Impact Ministries New City Church at 3355 Old Jonesboro Road in Fairburn
- World Harvest Church at 320 Hardscrabble Road in Roswell
“We are extremely thankful to our faith and community partners for opening their doors to distribute food to Fulton families next week,” the district said in a statement.
On April 13, the district will resume its food distribution program that started March 16.
Locally, the Solidarity Food Pantry, a community funded and community-driven effort, has partnered with two Sandy Springs restaurants to hand out lunches to students in the Sandy Springs cluster.
The pantry will be passing out lunches on April 6, April 8 and April 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Under the Cork Tree at 5600 Roswell Road and Samad Grill at 8897 Roswell Road.
