What is motivating you to run for this office?
What is motivating me to run is that I want to see “change,” but a positive change. I believe that those who can have a civil duty to ourselves and each other, whether it is on a local, state or federal level, in order to promote positive change. I understand the value and the importance of being connected to issues that surround my county, district and community as well as my county. I understand government, policy, legislation and the Constitution. I have given of myself to others when they were in need and found a passion to keep helping.
What is the biggest issue facing the district and how will you address it?
Making sure that both DeKalb and my district are safe and beautiful, and creating economic stability. I will do this by making sure that old infrastructure that is collapsing is taken down, making sure the roads are free of potholes, parks are clean, water is clean and safe to drink, and that there are job creation and opportunity programs to help educate those in need. Making sure that funding for public safety is a main priority, and helping those less fortunate with programs that will not cost taxpayer money, but will result in profit and stability for them.
What makes you the best candidate to challenge the incumbent?
I believe that I would be the best candidate to challenge the incumbent because, well, one, I am not a career politician; this is not what I do for a living. However, I am retired and a writer and had my own business, apart from that I went on to school to get my education, so I went on to study political science. I do not live in a fancy house or a prestigious ZIP code. I live humbly and I have integrity as well. I am hard-working, responsible and bilingual.
What strengths and weaknesses have the coronavirus pandemic crisis revealed in DeKalb County government?
Dekalb has promoted the stay-at-home order, which is important and providing essential workers the ability to work and being able to still keep its businesses open at this time. Weaknesses: Some communities don’t have the luxury of staying home or qualifying for a stimulus, so that made it hard and there are no programs in place for these people even if they do pay taxes.
